‘The arts are tools of advocacy, the artists behind them activists and the communities created in their wake, a collective of adherents. Speaking to the latter, school systems house creativity within the confines of a social construct.’

Johns Hopkins University celebrates Earth Day 50/year wide event. Lightning Talk - The Arts as a Vehicle to Address Issues of Social Justice

“The arts as a vehicle to address issues of social justice as they relate to climate change. The arts provide common ground in shaky times by highlighting interconnectedness through the cultivation of community commonality –Just think whether you dislike or love an art piece in whatever form it presents itself, you will inevitably end up in a conversation about it. art is the ultimate unifier, communicative tool and mediator of boundary-crossing conversations.”

Arts Movements

Art intersects with issues of social justice throughout history and is one of life’s most exponentially important narrators. It communicates past life to the present and present life to future generations -our hopes, trials, dreams and tribulations.

Research Inquiry: Art fosters community commonality and narrates social movements.

Social Movements

The arts parallel social movements throughout history. Restorative justice is arguably a social movement that was molded into a discipline model.

Research Inquiry: Social movements found in privatized pre-K12 school systems that utilize restorative justice in favor of punitive and place value on the arts.

“I believe that the art collections and public works we fund and implement are some of life’s most exponentially important societal and historical narratives. Art communicates past life to the present and present life to future generations –our values, hopes, trials and tribulations. That’s the power of public art and I believe the integral value we, the Nevada State College Arts & Culture Advisory Council, place on our role in communicating the importance of the arts.”

-Jesa Townsend

Founding Member, NSC Arts & Culture Advisory Council

‘The arts are the oil to restorative justices’ squeaky wheel -increasing overall educational efficiency.’
